Description

Look: metallic ruby red body
Male and female look identical, yet females can be distinguished by a triangular shape on their butt
size: 25 to 30 mm
Natural habitat: Rjieka, Croatia
These larvae were captive bred in Belgium
Food imago: ripe fruits, beetle jelly, bee pollen as an important source of extra protein for Protaetia
temp/hygro: 20°C-30°C/70%-90%
Food larva: oak or beech peat / compost soil with white rotten wood from oak or beech / flake soil
A 3 month diapause during winter for the larvae is necessary in the pursue of sufficient offspring. Larvae can be diapaused in a temperature range of 6 to 14 degrees celsius when the larvae have grown into large L3’s of about 7 grams. After diapause, larvae will build their cocoon in spring and emerge in early summer.
